Lawn Turfing Melbourne — New Lawn From $800
A patchy, weed-strangled lawn drags a whole house down. A fresh-laid roll of Sir Walter buffalo or kikuyu — done properly with proper prep — looks like new carpet for the front yard.
We lay instant turf across west Melbourne. Measure, soil prep, lay, water-in. Request a callback below.
What's Included
- Onsite measure of the lawn area
- Recommendation on grass type for your aspect (full sun vs shade) and use (pet, kids, low-maintenance)
- Removal of the existing lawn / weeds (mechanical or chemical, your choice)
- Soil prep — typically 50–80mm of lawn mix added and levelled
- Supply and laying of fresh turf rolls
- Initial water-in
- 4-week care instructions on a one-page handout
Pricing assumes flat ground. Slopes, retaining walls, removal of large root masses or buried rubbish add time and we'd quote those at the measure.

Why Locals Choose Us
- Soil prep that's not skipped. Half the turf jobs we redo were laid straight onto compacted clay or old grass — they die in summer. We do it once, properly.
- Honest grass advice. Buffalo isn't right for every yard. Kikuyu spreads aggressively. Couch needs more water than it deserves. We tell you which fits YOUR yard.
- Established turf suppliers. We work with Lilydale Instant Lawn, Anco Turf, and Greenacres — all delivering fresh-cut rolls (not 5-day-old yellowing stock).
- Real callback. Fill the form, get a real person on the phone same business day.
Other Services We Offer
- Lawn Mowing — ongoing maintenance on the new lawn
- Gardening — border tidy-up to match the new lawn
- Synthetic Grass Installation — if real lawn isn't going to work for your spot
- Pressure Washing — clean the surrounding paving so the lawn pops
- Hedge Trimming — finish the makeover
Frequently Asked Questions
When can I walk on a new lawn?
Light foot traffic from week 2. Heavy use (kids playing, dog running) from week 4–6. Mowing usually starts at week 3 once roots are anchored.
How much will I water it?
Twice a day for the first 10 days. Once a day for week 2. Then taper to deep-soaking every 2–3 days. Without that, it dies regardless of how well it was laid.
What if I have heavy clay soil?
Almost every west Melbourne yard does. We add 50–80mm of lawn mix on top to give the roots somewhere to go. Skipping that step is the #1 reason new lawns fail in this region.
Can you remove the old lawn?
Yes — by mechanical scarifier for most jobs. For very weedy areas we may suggest a glyphosate spray 2 weeks before laying, which is more reliable than mechanical removal alone.
Will my lawn survive winter clay-soil drainage?
If it's prepped right (mound a touch, good underlay), yes. Sir Walter buffalo handles wet feet better than kikuyu. We'd specify in the quote.
